The Republic of Zambia is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. The neighboring countries are the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia to the south, and Angola to the west. The capital city is Lusaka, located in the south-central part of the country. The population is concentrated mainly around the Lusaka in the south and the Copperbelt to the northwest. Currently, Zambia has a growing energy demand and as is the case in the rest of the world, the drive to develop renewable sources of energy to meet the energy demand is of prime concern. The government of the Republic of Zambia has been encouraging the development of renewable energy system. The Luangwa Solar Power Corporation Limited, a local Zambian company has heeded the call by government of the Republic of Zambia for private players to invest in the energy sector to enable the country meet the ever rising demand for energy by various consumers especially industry within the country of Zambia. Accordingly, a 5-MWp Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant is proposed to be installed in Luangwa district of Lusaka province. The Project is expected to begin in early January 2011 and the first phase of 1-MWp should come online in by Mid March 2011. The total project should be completed by the end of August 2011.
